• Choose the right software for your needs and practice using it until all the features become second nature.

• Start with modest, simple recordings and work your way up to more complex compositions over time.

• Ensure you regularly save your work, using different filenames so you can "roll back" to a previous version if you need to.

• Don't go over the top with sound effects and filters, such as reverb. It's tempting to overuse these features upon discovery, but this can make a recording sound washed out and over-processed.

• Listen to your final edit on different hardware to ensure it sounds good on each one.
