A good book about the search industry: The Search by John Battelle
A very well know geek recommended the book a while ago in his blog and it was time for me to improve my english during the holiday season. Reading english books help and I went for amazon to get “The Search” of John Battelle. I am a real Wired addicted computer junkie anyhow and John’s name rings like 150 bells.
He was writing about the newly released Google Video Search and order system before the search giant came out with it and he has much more predictions in it, which probably will come true (I find especially the interconnection of advertisements in TV episodes and my online activity very possible!)
The most enjoying part of the book is the deep insight John has into the Valley. He talkes to people, who were broke and billionairs 1-2 times before the interview and know what they talk about.
If you are interessted in the search industry, this book is defintely a must. His website is worth a look as well: John Battelle - thoughts of the future…

I have read the book “The Search” by John. Its an excellent book written on the search engine industry & gives a thourough understanding about it, particularly about the giant Google.
It is most useful for the novice online venturists & provide a limited scope for the biggies of search engine marketing. Though it has some spelling/grammatical mistakes, its still a very interesting & informative book- must read!

Its a total waste of time to read this book. No info about the search engine marketing strategies is provided & all the information is just general & available everywhere on the net for free. Its a total waste of time & money. Don’t read it!!!

I don’t agree with Astia above. ‘The Search’ is a good book acclaimed by readers & reviewers worldwide. And it has very good ratings on Amazon & other such sites. It provides useful info about the search engines, their history, how they work & some future predictions also.
