While tradebit grows heavily the amount of illegal files also exploded and we had a hard time the last weeks to follow up on removal requests from companies, who found their software on tradebit published without their consent. We have checked the files and if we found a copyright violation, we deleted either the file or in heavy cases the whole account. That was exhausting manual work.
We also saw, that this was done with always the same files like "harry potter" or "something for dummies". Now we have a blacklist of files we do not want on tradebit which filters for these uploads (down to the archive level and the checksums) and puts them on hold. This should lower the amount of illegally published files extensively!
It could also lead to "false positives" but these files are not deleted, just on hold. If you have the feeling our tool is to hard to you, let us know and we will check the upload!
Hi Ralf, big fan here…I would like comment on this post and ask a quick question.
First, good step toward cleaning up tradebit with this filter. You are pretty much the first one to implement this.
Second, I will be in Germany in a few months on vacation and I was wondering if I can meet the man behind the site. Would it be possible to have a beer or something?
Later
hey, sure – we love to meet with merchants and find out more how to improve our site. I will send you a direct mail and we can setup a meeting…
