System update: Backbone maintenance

Here is a short "heads up" for a scheduled maintenance window on the weekend. Our hoster Softlayer (formerly The Planet) is doing a backup update and we might be affected by that. Internet providers still think the weekend is a good time slot, which is totally wrong. The best update window would be Monday afternoon between 2pm and 6pm, when the REVENUE is lowest... but well, we can not do anything about their schedule - here it comes:

=======================================================================

SoftLayer Scheduled Maintenance - GLOBAL [06/18/2011]

Date: Saturday, June 18, 2011 (06/18/2011)

Start Time: 01:00 AM CDT

End Time: 05:00 AM CDT

Services affected: Public / Private Network

Location: GLOBAL

Duration: 28 hours

---

SoftLayer Engineers will be performing global maintenance on the SoftLayer Technologies backbone.  During this change, Engineers will be implementing a number of policy changes related to route announcement and accepting routes from providers and peers.  This work is required to support continued growth within the network and future global expansion.  Due to the scope of this change, the work has been scheduled across the following dates:

Saturday June 18th 01:00 - 05:00 CDT

Sunday June 19th 01:00 - 05:00 CDT

While Engineers expect no outage during this maintenance, customers may experience higher latency and/or packet loss while routes reconverge across the network.  Customers with private network traffic between datacenters may also see latency and/or packet loss as routes are adjusted.

I hope we will not feel too much about that and the outages will be very short - but who knows!
