If you can not pump up your traffic, work on the conversion!
Directing a certain amount of visitors to a site is hard work. We are quite good with that, but some niches have their limits or are filled with too many competitors, to raise more traffic by natural search engine placements. If you are in that point and all you can do is adding content to your site, it might be a good idea to think about your users again: what they want and where they click!
I have recently read Steve Krugs “Don’t make me think” again. A great book about usability and site design. And again I found a few big mistakes in our designs, if you take him by the word…
Now we will try to add some nice little navigation gimmicks to pump up the conversions and to make the user think less and enjoy our sites more. If you do not know the book, go and buy it!

Ralf,
Can you share a few tips that you fond in Steve Krug’s book? I read bits and pieces of the first book and it’s a fantastic reference. I wonder what other gems he is sharing in the latest book.
Thanks!

I suggest reading the book.
I just read this book last month and have already recommended it to the programmers that I subcontract. The book has some fantastic information on how the user community “actually” uses the web and the psychology around why they do it that way.
It has caused me to take a look at several of the open projects I have in a new light. However, convincing some customers to do things the “right” way instead of what they think is going to capture their users is not always easy.
