Driving Traffic with Social Media

The effects of social media sites like YouTube, Digg, etc. on your traffic pontential were a big topic on the Pubcon Conference earlier this month. I have written about it in an earlier post. The guys from Blendtec have significantly increased their sales by releasing funny videos with their blender in it and serveral tracks have been discussing that topic over and over again. Most of the examples have been funny videos. So this weekend I have done some research on OUR social media traffic and want to share the results with you.

The undisputed top seller with buyers from youtube is still Adam Gussow with his blues harmonica lessons. I believe his secret is not really one - he is just publishing a lot of free stuff around his lessons and people honor that by also buying additional lessons from here.

Another seller is King David with his fruity loops tutorials. He also gives free advice on youtube and shows how to create certain styles of loops and beats with the software. Together with the infos from the conference and the examples I can verify here on the platform a solid understanding of social media and video promotions forms:

  • Publish, Publish, Publish!
  • Give away free advice - if it is good, people will link and click you!
  • If possible, be funny
  • Link to your download shop from the youtube profile and detail of the video

seem to be some basic rules of social media marketing!
