The “wrong links” effect

Some of you experienced a drop in sales yesterday. I am afraid this will also happen today because we had a little linking bug in the new layout.

That link-bug directed some links from the products back to the main category page instead of the catalog page the product is on. Google has already spidered these false links and our listing started to went down on Friday and might reach its bottom today.

We have corrected these errors yesterday night and the listing should be corrected within 48 hours from now - so your sales from tradebit should go back up shortly. Sorry for that, it is just in the nature of catalog structure that these tiny changes can have a huge impact on traffic!

In detail: the products in certain categories with MANY files (like the eBooks category) were still listed, but the back link to the overview page was misleading. Also in "music", "software" and the "sound effects" categories: where many products are listed the effect got worst. From our experience it takes Google about 48-72 hours to learn about the new site structure and eat the new links for the index. Yahoo and the others take a bit longer...

If you rely strongly on us to bring traffic you will see this effect more obviously than the merchants driving traffic to their own sites and use us as the delivery service.
