While currently in Vegas for the Pubcon conference, I look for the hot topics that could actually help our marketplace to drive more traffic, more sales and make the experience for our users better. Here are a few things I figured this morning:
- the basics get lost on the way to create new features: revisit what you have and make it simpler, faster, better - before you move on to new features
- SEO without user engagement is a waste of resources
- buying text links to improve rankings is widely used among webmasters, just not on their major flagships. When Google says it is bad, it is probably a dangerous thing to do, so do not do it for your major sites!
- the air in Vegas is so dry that it makes you suffer, no matter how much water you pour into yourself
Are some basic infos to take away for today. Our session on "code installation" was pretty technical and the people there are fighting similar problems with hackers, credit card fraud and comment spam like we are. Some do it on scary enterprise levels.
Twitter is totally overloaded by the tweets from the fellow Pubcon'ers and if you missed something, you just skim thru the hash tag #pubcon - there are hundreds of people quoting the top remarks of the speakers every minute.
