The digital age: Do you read bytes?
Maybe I am a bit old fashioned here, but I prefer reading a good book on my couch. You might saw, that we sell a lot of eBooks here on tradebit, so I know that the best sellers are manuals and references and not novels!
But our beloved/hated internet giants are on the move to get everything digital, read here for the full story on Reuters: OCA Book effords.
I would not work for tradebit.com, if I would not believe, that the managing and distribution of digital goods has a bright future, but I really think, that recharging the battery of my PDA after reading an hour (there is never enough power!) is a pain and as a dedicated couch potato, I hate to get up in the middle of a good passage!
The mainstream of digital content distribution is, and will be for a few years to come, the three big “M”:
- Music
- Movies
- Mobile Phone content
followed by niche content, like the loops and sounds or software titles you will find here and elsewhere on the web.
Mainstream means, we talk entertainment and as sad as it is, reading a novel for pleasure has become a niche market.
Besides my private opinion, scanning books has some copyright implications (read here about the monsters within the scanning process), which could make the whole efford just worthless. My favourite is monster 4: providing the wrong ad to the right content :-).
