Giving up on upgrading PHP for today
I loved certified systems, until about 1 hour ago
Then I tried to upgrade our server cluster to a newer and better PHP version, which should include LiveJournals (and others, see http://www.danga.com/memcached/) nice memcache service, to increase the speed of the platform.
Now I give up for today! Just a few words to the brave sysadmins out there:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 needs a hell lot of work to get it moving to the latest releases out there and I am thinking of exchanging the webserver boxes altogehter and jump to RHEL5 right away!
That release has some interesting features, we already use on our german cluster, especially the GFS system and the virtualization: like running multiple tradebit servers on one larger box and then building a set of hardware boxes working together…
However, I have wasted the day in tweaking our backend as good as I could. I hope to upgrade the platform during the next weeks, together with the new layout!
