Developing a multi lingual site

While we grow into a broader marketplace for downloads, we need to implement some new languages into the tradebit PHP code. That is not the easiest part in our development process and some merchants already felt the growing pains the last days.

All english phrases like “Your selection of downloads:” needed to be “tagged” as language dependent and extracted from the code. We are still in beta testing mode of these coding changes and have implemented some new bugs with the new structure. I hope I have killed the last one today.

Additionally we needed to upgrade the database model in the back and you are already able to upload and register files in 2 languages. When that is tested we will add more languages and besides German, Spanish is my favourite!

The targeted result will be a nice PHP code selection, with every sentence or paragraph in an external file for the interface language management. Beyond that, the database now supports different “text-tables”, where the information for the single downloads are held.

I hope in mid-October we are bi-lingual and then the way is paved for a multi-lingual setup.

We also learned, that there are some additional payment methods, we should integrate, while changing everything.

Please bear with us, while we try to make tradebit more flexible and powerful for you to use. We have introduced about 5 new bugs in the last 7 days, but I do hope that we have found and killed them for good. If you have more things, which seem to produce errors, please let me know.

I think its important to do so but if you do least have some way of determining what others say translations in webites hardly ever look perfect
