Sales of royalty free photos
The photos taken by professional photographers are normally distributed under 2 different models: either “rights managed” or “royalty free” use.
The first means the rights to re-publish that photo or integrate it into your work are transferred for a limited time or for just that single use. The royalties for these rights are calculated (for example) on the amount of issues you distribute (like 10,000 flyers or 500 invitation cards). Companies like Getty (who might be sold soon) have specialized in that field.
The second kind of rights distribution is more for smaller publishers or web publishers like us: Royalty free usage of photos (or other media like music) means that you can use the work of others in your own without paying a fee for each issue. You pay once for the right to use that file in various places as part of your own creation. Nonetheless are you NOT allowed to resell that original piece of art. It is OK, if you sell your own work, which derived from the original piece, though.
We have teamed up with a new partner to bring you as many photos as we can get and have now over 80,000 original photos online. All taken by professionals, all are royalty free.
In the next days will another cool site go live, where you can learn more about photography and the distribution of your art!
