Web Search: FrOScon in Germany in August
Like last year the Open Source community will meet in Bonn at the beautiful river Rhine in Germany in August. The preparations for FrOScon 2008 on August 23rd are in full swing and I will hold a presentation again. This year I will talk about search. Currently there are two major search solutions available for your Linux servers.
1.) Sphinx
Tradebit is heavily powered by the indexing and search server Sphinx, which helped us a lot in speeding up the site. It can be directly fed from a MySQL database and my presentation will show, how we did that and how you can configure your own Sphinx Server and the PHP access to it
2.) MNOGOsearch
That is a typical web spider and indexing software - again from Russia - they play great soccer and have good coders there
which we use in a German project at the moment where we index and search over 120,000 domains.
Both solutions are fully GPLed - that means you have full control of the source code - what we prefer. If you are interested in Open Source developments the FrOScon is the place to be in August!
The folks from Amarok have a nice blog posting with photos from last year online…
