Details:
Combining Emmy award winner Brad Hatfield's arrangements with Lisa Manning's lyrical vocals, makes "Coming of Age" an exciting collection of popular classics and soon-to-be classics, most suited for senior citizens. The majority of the tunes were written in the 1940's and 1950's and appeared on the Hit Parade or the newly formed rock'n'roll Top 40.
"Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" combines two different songs which share the same title, written decades apart; one made famous by Ricky Nelson and the other by Van Morrison. They compliment each other well.
"As Time Goes By" from Casablanca, is a timeless classic. Likewise, "My One and Only Love", sung on this recording by Lisa's daughter, Ashlynn, 22, has stood the test of time. "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Marilyn Monroe's signature song, remains fun and campy today. Swinging versions of "Almost Like Being in Love" from Brigadoon and "You Make Me Feel So Young" are complimented by Mike Monaghan's sax runs (Mike is a member of the Boston Pops and a fine studio musician).
Connie Francis originally recorded "Stupid Cupid" and Frankie Ford rocketed with "Sea Cruise" back in the late 1950's. They are still foot tapping, boogey-woogey-ing songs today! What fun for someone with a Valentine's Day anniversary or remembering a fabulous cruise!
Lisa wrote "Down in the Islands" with a calypso flair, inviting her girl friends to escape to the islands for a well deserved break (leave the men at home!) It has an upbeat party feel to it.
"Isn't It Amazing" was written by Lisa with an important message for everyone. We should all live in harmony, like the rest of nature. We are all different but we're all the same inside. And brother loving brother must be God's dream. "Autumn Reverie" is a pensive song first recorded by Lisa as a teenager but it has much more significance sung by a woman who has matured and who has lost her soul mate. The beautiful "Wind Beneath My Wings" is perhaps the most beloved love song ever written. Like "Autumn Reverie" it's a song immortalizing a true love; a song which touches seniors especially, who have experienced this loss.
Elders love to sing along with "I Don't Know Why I Love You Like I Do". It's a popular classic which is always fresh and new.
This collection of music is truly a beauty which will be played often as it conjures up happy (and some sad) memories. It's a nostalgic walk down memory lane with music to guide you along.
