HIP HOP/RAP: Spiritual Rap, SPOKEN WORD: With Music
Details:
In 1972, a rapper was born not knowing he was supposed to be involved with the Gospel. The place was Long Island, New York and when his mother had her ultrasound, it was reported that the doctor heard tight lyrics going along with the heartbeat at the same time. As a child he developed his unique ear for music by experimenting with beats using pots, pans, and cardboard boxes. After his parents divorce, Little-V- became rebellious and was lured to the sights and sounds of the streets. While experiencing the rise of Hip-Hop through his residence in both Brooklyn, and Long Island, his first song was composed in 1988. Between this time and 1994, -V- was a gifted lyricist coming straight out of the New York tradition of hardcore Hip-Hop. However, while doing secular rap, deep down inside he still felt an empty feeling that went away in 1995 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. After this powerful transformation which changed his life forever, his music leaned towards less negative themes. After studying the Word of God, Little -V- completely abandoned secular music altogether. The result now is his unique, exciting street style of Gospel Hip-Hop with versatile ranges, from socially conscious, soul-convicting hardcore rhymes over melodic grooves, to up-tempo âspirit-stirringâ cuts.
After writing his first Gospel song entitled âDevil Fightinâ Spiritâ in 1996, he has received exposure at church events, youth explosions, prisons, and community programs through his membership with the Underground Gospel Ministries Inc. His first CD entitled âThe Flesh Killahâ was released in 2000. Following the buzz of his first CD and the many souls that were affected by it, he dropped another one later on that was more powerful and anointed than the first one. He writes his own material, arranges, and produces his own tracks for both CDâs. With the latest CD entitled âSurvivalâ many people throughout the nation have been blessed and the presence of God has been ushered in by songs such as âNo Fears, No Tearsâ and âHoly Ghost Groovinâ.
Through his affiliation with the Underground Gospel Ministries, Little-V- had the opportunity to open shows for artist such as Trinity 5-7, Mary Mary, Tonex, Tye Tribbett, Charles Wolfork, Jessica Care Moore, Reverend Run, The Cross Movement, Dawkins & Dawkins, Karen Clarke Sheard, Kiki Sheard, and Papa San. He has also opened up for Gospel comedian âBoneâ and TV/Movie-Christian personalities Anthony Griffith and Sheri Shepherd. Through the Underground, Little-V- was given many opportunities to use his God given gifts, and talents to make an impact in the Kingdom. This also involved feeding the homeless, and giving back to the community by doing outreach ministry in spreading the gospel to the streets. A play called âLifeâ was written based on his song âThe Ghetto Versionâ. This play is a Hip-Hop musical drama that displays the life of Christ in todayâs urban world.
Finally, Little-V- has expanded his commitment to the cause by his role as Youth Leader (Min.-V-) at Agape International Ministries in Richmond, VA. Established in 2006,âKill The Flesh Ministriesâ was birthed out of Minister Gil Robinson and the Underground. Little-V-âs ministry is for the purpose of convincing and encouraging people to live a better life according to the Word of God. By killing the lust of the flesh which is denying evil desires by the power of the Holy Spirit, -V- is a walking example to the young people, showing them how to live a bold and victorious life as a single man or woman of God and abstaining from sexual and evil activities just as he does himself. Little-V-âs powerful anointed ministry will change the lives of all those who are drawn to the message of the Cross of Jesus Christ.
