Details:
âComplacency makes casualties,â says Cory Johnson, lead guitarist for The Lid. âItâs become a sort of motto in the band.â Throughout the hysteria of their first year together, The Lid have managed to stay true to their credo. Striving for unique and interesting sounds with every song, the term âgenreâ hasnât quite settled on them yet. âWe try to keep things fresh. The last thing we need is for songwriting to become comfortable,â comments frontman Eric Pasi. âAbstaining from the recycle-method is something thatâs very important to us; we donât want a formula.â Their style - what the band calls ADDrock - is a conglomeration of traditional, progressive and alternative rock and roll vibes designed to keep the listener engaged while continually pushing the envelope of composition; it is this inattention to focus that partially defines the band.
Recorded and produced by Ev Olcott (12Rods/Halloween Alaska) at Integral Studios, The Lidâs debut full-length album (Like Walking Through Walls) is a personal journey about weathering lifes obstacles and social norms. Pasi, a Carlson School of Management senior at the University of Minnesota and Evans Scholar, reflects on academic versus personal success, his own âman-versus-selfâ battle with ADHD, the harrowing ethics of corrupt business, and the price of expectations.
The Lid is currently working on putting together a cross-country summer tour and plans to continue their quest for musical innovation if for no other reason than to stave off their own boredom.
