Folk, jazz, pop and poetry rub shoulders on this intense and timeless recording.
13 MP3 Songs
FOLK: like Joni, POP: Folky Pop
Details:
Toronto-born singer/songwriter Lesley Young is an accomplished and emotional guitarist and vocalist. Symphony for Two, her debut album, captures her timeless and introspective fusion of folky pop, jazz, rock and poetry. It clearly shows why sheâs regarded as a songwriterâs songwriter in Toronto circles.
Recorded, for the most part, live off the floor over three intense weeks in spring, 1994, Symphony for Two marks the first translation of Lesleyâs passionate and introspective songs to disc. Her vocals and guitar playing are impressive, the songs richly supported by some of Canadaâs finest players, including George Koller, Jim Vivian, Alan Cole, and Matthew Shawn Fleming. Her sophisticated grasp of jazz and pop is evident; the player chemistry is unmistakable. The album is a tasty listen, recorded by engineering legend Nick Blagona and jazz producer/arranger James Pett.
". . . stunning indie offering."
Kerry Doole, impact magazine
"Refreshing to hear music of such originality and quality."
Radio WOUI, Chicago
"Shines with inspiration...rich in texture and tapestry... sultry and sparkling guitar...'
Gary 17, to-nite magazine
Lesley is preparing to release her second CD, Inside, this fall.
