(ID 1004246)
Catchy melodic pop folk duo with dramatic harmonies and playful socially conscious songs

12 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Pop, FOLK: Modern Folk

Details:
Rarely does an independent CD from unknowns have more than half its songs receive airplay. But that is just what happened when Lessick and Lincoln's debut CD Other Lives was released back in 1994. Over the years it has only been available at live performances. Now it is finally being made available for sale to the general public through CDbaby.com. As soon as Other Lives was released, it received praise from a variety of music people. Here is what some of them had to say about it back in 1994:

"Splendid creative material... well recorded and well produced"
Stephanie P. Ledgin, editor/publisher of the Traditional Musicline

"Good lyrics...the songs make an impact...Great harmonies..."
Mark Curso, WRSU FM, New Brunswick, NJ

"I enjoyed the album...high energy...fun songs and some very pretty songs too..."
Erin Riley, WXPN-FM, Philadelphia, PA

"...This album sports a host of songs that matter...Lessick and Lincoln are a pair destined to get better mileage on the folk scene..."
Roger Dietz, singer/songwriter, humorist
Author, The Folk Music Chronicles

Well Lessick and Lincoln's "mileage" on the folk scene ran out in 1995 when they quit performing to concentrate on other pursuits. However, in the past decade there are a variety of different musical projects they have done together and in collaboration with others including a rock project with avant-garde guitarist/composer Art Cohen (soon to be released as The Men From When.) In addition, there are numerous live L&L recordings that could be released in the future from the vaults---along with new material from the duo yet to be recorded!

About the songs on Other Lives

1. "McDonald" is a playful social commentary on agribusiness and would be perfect for someone to perform at Farm Aid (hear that John Mellencamp?)

2. "Little Wendy" is a modern urban allegory using Peter Pan as a theme

3. "Character Flaw Shuffle" mocks Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" slogan with a tragic story of urban drug warfare

4. "The Old Red Barn" is an old-fashioned love song with a lullaby quality

5. "The Lion Sleeps No More" is a percussive tribute to Nelson Mandela

6. "Plains of the Colorado" is the true story of the Sand Creek Massacre

7. "Mango" with its a wacky calypso feel was the duo's most popular live number

8. "Miriam" may be why L&L were sometimes compared to Simon & Garfunkel

9. "Formerly Pipers Ferry" is about a Pennsylvania brewery town

10. "Proud" was about the Persian Gulf War and unfortunately is still relevant

11. "Alligator Man" is a very strange song that kind of promotes vegetarianism

12. "Fine Day" is a happy bouncy song about urban life

About Lessick & Lincoln

Lessick and Lincoln are percussionist/vocalist Steve Lessick and singer/songwriter Rob Lincoln. A NJ based pop folk duo, they were most active from 1989 through 1995 in the mid-Atlantic region, playing clubs in Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania including: the Crossroads Cafe, the Mermaid Inn, The Mine Street Coffeehouse, The Minstrel Coffeehouse, the Postcrypt Coffeehouse, the Side Door Coffeehouse and Zeke's Place. They headlined many of these venues or opened for performers such as Pete and Maura Kennedy (the Kennedys), David Massengill, Amy & Jennie and Joe Rathbone.

L&L have not performed live in quite a while, but in their heyday, this is how two of the venues they performed at described them:

"High powered original material featuring driving rhythms and close harmony"

---The Minstrel Coffeehouse

"A dynamic duo...with unique harmonies and an authentic style that's unmistakably their own blend."

---The Postcrypt Coffeehouse

Columbia University, New York City

Maybe they will release new material and maybe they will even someday perform together again, but until then, buying this CD is the only way to hear them.
