Genetically Modified Blues from Leather and Beer: the Raw Power of the early Stones, spliced with the visceral sounds of Muddy Waters, reigned to the voice of an angel.
10 MP3 Songs
BLUES: English Style, ROCK: Classic Rock
Details:
Leather and Beer are a Rock and Blues band from Central Scotland. Consisting of Drums, Bass, Guitar, Harmonica and Vocals, the band live and breathe Rock and Blues and love performing live.
The band members have played together for many years in various incarnations but this latest collaboration feels like the real deal. The band is excited to have produced their first album after all this time.
Guitarist, Callum Chapman says: "Like the first track on the album says, I am a prisoner of Rock and Rollâ
Although the album could be described as a traditional Rock and Blues album, there are some things that make it stand out from the crowd. Having a virtuoso Harmonica player is a great addition for the band. Gordon Luke has been playing harmonica for "far too long" now. Gordon started playing with the band after asking to jam live at a gig with them. Callum said no as âyou could be terrible and show us up or you could be great and show us upâ but he gave him his number and asked him to call. He did and the rest is history.
Gordon says: âI love the way this band treats the Harmonica as a solo instrument not just using it as an add-on like so many bands do. I donât play other instruments in the band, this is what I do and I do it well.â
The Rhythm section is made up of David Gilroy on Drums and Duncan Mulholland on Bass Guitar. Bass player, Duncan and Guitarist, Callum grew up together in a small village called Pumpherston, they have been playing music and causing havoc together for longer than either of them care to mention.
Duncan says: âI like the way the rhythm section just seem to blend together like peas and carrots orleather and beer. In fact the whole band work together really well.I'm probably biased but I think we are a force to be reckoned with." and Dave says "Whose round is it?"
Perhaps the most unusual thing about Leather and Beer is the fact that the lead vocals are produced by Annette Chapman, not only a female but a classically trained singer who still sings in that genre as well as producing some impressive Rock and Blues vocals with the band.
âI've recently graduated from a classical music degree at Glasgow University where I specialised in classical singing and I loved the challenges that posed. I still sing classically but my first and true love is the blues. I am not afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to the rock vocals but my training enables me to keep a warmth and depth to my voice. I get the chance to sing both upbeat songs and ballads with the band and if people arenât touched in someway by how I sing, then I feel that Iâve failed. It doesnât happen oftenâ
Leather and Beer is essentially a live band. Their debut album captures some of the enthusiasm and energy that they generate on stage. This album will make you laugh, cry and jump up and down!
