Franky Perez has knack for storytelling , a timeless sound, and the kind of live show that buckles your knees. The son of Cuban emigrants, he got his musical start when he befriended conga legend and Cuban exile, Lazaro Valdez, soaking up Cuban rituals like voodoo while honing his musical style. Combining working-class rock ââ¬Ën roll with his latin soul, Frankyâs first release, âPoor Manâs Sonâ (Lava Records) contains 17 tracks of impassioned honest songwriting, a volume of music which Franky calls his recession special. Perez took his act on the road, joining Jason Mraz, and sharing festival billing with John Mayer, Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers, etc. VH1 soon picked up the video for the single "Something Crazy" including it in regular rotation. CMT.com named Poor Man's Son to a list of top 20 of gems of 2003.
After touring for over a year, Perez returned to Las Vegas to write and re-charge. Perez continued writing and in the winter of 2004, recorded My 4th of July in the intimacy of his own home. Fulfilling a need to create a body of work that was true to his own vision and himself, Perez played his own drum parts (recorded in his foyer), guitar, keyboards, and sang vocals at his own pace in his own control room. Having the freedom to press 'record' whenver he wanted, he produced a body of work with a cohesiveness and honesty of which Perez is incredibly proud. The songwriting is tight, well-crafted, and highly accessible. The production is both dynamic and pleasing while allowing Perez the freedom to express his clear and soulful voice.

Perez is a Cuban-American rock 'n' roller but under the electric guitars and bravado is a genuine storyteller. On Poor Man's Son, he sings of teenage romance, neighborhood hookers and love for his country all with the same understanding and passion.
