Details:
This album is a trip into the past. Some of the original songs were written over 30 years ago. It draws inspiration partly from when I lived in Key West Florida in 1970. (that's one full year before Jimmy Buffett got there) Nobody wears flip flops in MOSQUITOVILLE. It was a way different place then from what it is now I'm sure. (Nobody was there) Anyway I did what the rest of the locals were doing (god only knows what they were doing, smuggling dope or planning revolutions I'm sure) It was JJ Wakler who had told me he was living there one night at the Quiet Night in Chicago. So, I headed for "down under". I hung out at Sloppy Joes and ate Key Lime pie and made fun of the few tourists who rode the Conch Train. It was heady stuff knowing that Ernest Hemingway had lived there and Tennessee Williams still did for a young aspiring songwriter who was then and still is a hopeless romantic.

But reality soon began to take hold. I was pulled over for "gently sliding through" a stop sign in my VW bug by one of Key West's finest and promptly thrown in jail (some famous people occupied the same cell I understand) for driving on an expired Illinois drivers license. Rather than await trial and risk winding up on a chain gang I wired for bond money ($50) and quickly left paradise. Now here I am with this MOSQUITOS CD on cdBaby and your guess is as good as mine as to what it all means.

For those who still want to know more about MOSQUITOS, it was recorded partly in HOMESTEAD, PA in the attic of an old Victorian house. I guess that has something to do with the past too and some of it was recorded in a basement in a suburb of New Jersey. Other parts were recorded at a kitchen table in Jamestown New York. There's songs about drug deals gone wrong (co-written with the late Rodd Willings from Warren PA and Hans Werner of Carsickness fame) songs about foreign wars and a really long song about some BANDITOS riding around on donkeys lost in the desert in search of water (by Chicago folksinger James Bourke) - will they find it? It's all pretty much average fare from your everyday average troubadour...

MOSQUITOVILLE (revisited) "is a little island in the stream" set far apart from the mainstream......

PS Please drink Tequila before listening.
PPS TVZ was a visitor in MOSQUITOVILLE for awhile....
(that visitation wasn't what you'd call average)
