funny that a band with such a formidable ear for great music, a rich and vibrant sound, and such a strong ability to bring a song--and a stage--to life would want to be known by their fans as frail.
because there's nothing delicate or even remotely weak about this greenville, north carolina foursome, whose band members include christopher west(vocals/writing/rhythm guitar), jon patton(lead guitar/performance artist), chris clement(bassist/vocals) & brian holder(percussion).
though they are not officially scheduled to take over the rest of the united states until mid-august, the members of frail have found their audience in places all over the east coast by remaining steadfastly true to who they are---four good guys who get together amongst friends and have a great time making music.
stripped down to the fundamental elements, that's frail. it's who they are and what they do.
and the fact that these four musicians, the songs they create, and the live shows they perform all happen to be extraordinary is no coincidence.
they are the exception--one of those rare bands that didn't need several years to hit their stride musically. since their formation as an alt/pop/rock quartet in the summer of '04, frail has undoubtedly hit the ground running. and fortunately for their ever-increasing base of fans, they have no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
for when it comes to their music, frail very skillfully combines a wide range of musical influences to generate their crisp and unique sound. while u2, the red hot chili peppers, and matchbox 20 tend to be the main ingredients comprising their sound, hints of southern rock & jazz are frequently added for flavor.
and when all of these different styles and talents come together--as they do on stage and on their debut album "edge of something new"--what's left is the pure & aurally amazing sound of a very exciting and often-exhilarating young band.
the name of their band may lead you to believe otherwise. but make no mistake, frail is coming on strong.
