2003 wasnât just a good year for Chardonnay. It was a good year for music. For in the summer of 2003, two grapes that had been ripening in the humid Florida air, were ready to be plucked from their vines and smashed eternally together to create FREE MONICA! The elder: poet, guitar shredder, and bass vocalist Ben Friedman who dedicated his life to studying the greats of song-writing, joined forces with young crooner and known ladiesâ man, Kyle LaMonica. The result was a sound the world had never heard before. Those with an experienced pallet could taste a sonic bouquet created by Free Monicaâs lush harmonies and sweet, telling melodies. Those who simply know what they like and want to shake their butts to it were immediately captured by their undeniably catchy song-writing. Free Monica released their first full length CD, Matter of Time, an experimental, post-modern, folk-pop journey into the heart of the lover, in the winter of 2003. While attending college on either sides of the country, Ben (University of California, San Diego) and Kyle (FSU) were subjected to vastly different experiences, while remaining forever connected through their shared love of music and song-writing. These two perspectives only served to enhance the complementary chemistry between the two. And, just like a fine wine, Free Monica has matured beautifully into a full-bodied rock phenomenon. Armed with their higher education and new found life experiences, Free Monica entered Andy Gaglianoâs Red Dog Studio to record their newest release, Egoliath. Egoliath is as diverse as it is simple. It delves deep into the psyche of the two gifted yet troubled song-writers to explore a wide spectrum of emotions. From introspective folk tales, to dancey philosophical rock, to epic ballads, to pop-song perfection, Egoliath has something for everybody, all the while staying true to the roots of Rock n Roll: Guitars, Bass, Drums, Vocals.
