Details:
The Freedom Company was founded in 2000 by the Scottish composer Julian Wagstaff and theatre practitioner David Pammenter to bring the epic stage musical John Paul Jones to the stage. Written and composed by Julian Wagstaff, The musical tells the story of the Scots-born hero of the American Revolution, a famous military leader and romantic hero in the United States but little known in his home country. The story is one of triumph and tragedy, love and loss, and the effect of one man's consuming ambition on those closest to him. The action opens in Scotland, but soon takes us to battles in England, adulation in France, war in Russia, and finally back to Paris and the tumult of the French Revolution.
This attractive CD features nearly one hour of high quality recorded music featuring the original cast and orchestra from the 2001 production. It is accompanied by a 24-page full-color booklet including photographs, complete lyrics, plot synopsis, cast list and show history. This is a must for all music theatre fans, though the melodic and uplifting score will have broad appeal across musical genres.
