Description:

(ID 1012128)
The second album by FOURTH ROTOR, cutting, driving, sometimes groovy, "smart" punk with irony and dark humor.

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, ROCK: Math Rock

Details:
Fourth Rotor know they make punk/hardcore music. A lot of people don't think they do, because it doesn't sound "punk". What passes for "punk" is today is largely a cartoon caricature of its past. Fourth Rotor think the idea of punk is to reject the past, burn the institutions, and create new stuff. Despite members having been involved in Chicago's DIY / punk / underground music community for over 20 years, they're not about to recreate the "old days" -- Fourth Rotor's sights are set on the present and future. They make music that, while obviously showing influences ("smart" punk of Nomeansno, the Minutemen, the Dicks, Chicago electric blues, Devo-like irony), shows no desire to fit into any niche. In fact they're almost always the "odd-band-out" on a bill, because they have no clear set of peers, "crowd", or scene. You'll find them playing in the basements, halls, squats, and house shows of the underground. Whether you think their music succeeds or fails, one can't deny their honesty, intensity, and dedication to making raw, challenging, driving music.

"Plain" is the second full length record for Fourth Rotor. It has nine songs with a running time of: 14:33. It is a follow up to their self-released "Seize" album, later released on LP by Chicago's Council Records. The anal pickyness of the band means that they take their time writing. With this batch of songs they've stripped down their sound and veered towards a shorter, faster direction than their first release, cutting out every strip of fat to get to the meat. Even more than before, they serve up chop, cut, start, stop, and groove songs.

Just back from two tours in Europe in 2005, they've been all over the U.S. and Canada. Fourth Rotor takes DIY seriously, and systematically avoids anything that reeks of "the music business". For Fourth Rotor, it's never been business -- it's music and ideas. Fourth Rotor formed in early 2001. Douglas Ward, guitar/vocals, was a founding member of the Underdog Records collective (label/distro/zine), as well as founding previous bands V.Reverse, 8 Bark & I.D. Under. Jacob Levee, bass/vocals, has been in previous bands Ambition Mission, Canadian Rifle, & Rustweiler. Kammy Lee, drums, was in the Space Invaders, as well as a founding member of Ambition Mission. Chicago based record label Southkore Records will be releasing the LP version of this album sometime in late 2005.
