Founded in 2000, the group exists to serve as a guardian of traditional Mandingue culture while bridging the gap between African and African diasporal cultural art forms. The name Farafina Kan was given to the group by Mamady Keita, the world's greatest living Djembefola (Djembe Master). Farafina's musical foundation is grounded in traditional Djembe music and infused with Hip-Hop, Reggae, Go-Go, Jazz and a variety of traditional and modern breaks, dances, and songs.
