Refreshing, passionate, edgy. This 5-piece blends the pop sensibilities of Crowded House and the Cars, the American rock feel of Tom Petty and the Wallflowers, and the honest songwriting we've come to expect from the likes of Wilco and Pete Yorn.
Billed as Fairlight's first "live" demo and fully backed up by the band's heartfelt, energetic shows, this 7-song CD caught fire within days of its small-budget release in late 2005, selling out of its first printing in less than 6 weeks.
In addition to snagging a solid following in its hometown of Austin, Texas, the band developed a heavy buzz on myspace (see www.myspace.com/fairlighttheband), mostly because of a common theme--a connection to the tunes. "We've been writing about our own experiences--our dreams, our broken hearts, our everyday realities," says Bobby Blunt (guitar/vocals). "I think it's great that people are tapping into our songs and deriving their own meanings from them."
Lead singer Neal Mehta brings a powerful resonance that compels you to believe not just in his message, but in your own potential. Add the ever-charming color of Shan Rutherford (keys) and a rhythm section that's thick as thieves (Mike Reynolds-drums; Bill Walter-bass), and the result is thoughtful, guitar-and-vocal driven rock 'n roll with memorable hooks and harmonies that'll keep you singing loud with your windows cranked down.
