The Origin and Life of Flo's Mellow Mood

Flo King, a Virginia Native, is a relatively newcomer to the jazz scene making her first appearance as a jazz singer in 2001. Flo brought a new mellow sound to her Richmond area listeners. Since that time and with the support of her fans, Flo has recorded 4 CD's, the most recent entitled "Flo King Sings - a mellow tone" released in October, 2005. Other CD's include "Jazz at the Jordans" (2002), "A Touch of Home- a tribute to our troops" (2003), and "A Mellow Christmas"(2004).

Flo speaks to her audiences through her astounding mellow vocals. Accompanied, usually, by her 5-piece band, she delights audiences with smooth flo'ing ballads (Good Morning Heartache), bossas (Besame Mucho) and jazz standards (The "A" Train).

As a former language instructor, Flo knows the importance of communicating with her listeners and does so not only in English, but in French, Spanish and Portuguese.

"Flo's Mellow Mood Band and Show" leaves the listener in a pleasantly relaxed state of consciousness and wanting more. Flo's musical niche is a unique combination of mellow blends of jazz and well-known ballads sung soulfully and melodically. She is often likened to Gloria Lynne, Phoebe Snow, Carmen McCrae, Phyllis Hyman and has even been called the "Female Frank Sinatra" with her rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon". Flo reaches out to her audiences through song providing music for listening, reminiscing, loving or dancing but above all providing a truly invigorating mellow experience.

What a name! Some performers choose names that leave you scratching your head, wondering exactly a listener might reasonably expect. Flo's Mellow Mood, on the other hand, chooses to say it all--a musical group specifically designed to provide mellow listening music for your listening pleasure. And pleasure it is! Flo King provides the smoky vibrato vocals with impressive support from a full five-piece band (piano, bass, drums, sax, trombone).

Based in Richmond, Virginia, Flo's Mellow Mood offers up quite a pleasing package of holiday tunes. Mellow Christmas presents seven well-known favorites, including Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad." The flavor is easy-listening with a jazzy flair, and the tone puts one in mind of sitting in a small hotel's lounge late in December. A mixed drink in hand, your thoughts are of a home far away; and somewhere you here the dulcet tones of a five-piece band and singer transporting you to a different time and place. Your mood indeed is very, very mellow.

Flo is especially fine on the opening track, "Silver Bells," and the band really rocks. In particular, the saxophone is superb on cuts like "My Favorite Things." The album is relative short (just over 31 minutes), but perhaps the group was just too mellow to let the music extend further.
