FOLK: Folk Pop, BLUES: Acoustic Blues

Details:
Stefanie Fix's musical style is contemporary but her philosophy and values will remind you of the folkies of yesteryear. Standing at 5 foot 3 inches and just barely over 100 pounds Stefanie Fix is like a little power pack of acoustic dynamite. Stefanie is a truth seeker and a truth seer who sings and writes from a place of empowerment with unmistakable passion and conviction. She addresses our hopes and fears both as individuals and as a community.

Her first release is titled Footprints in the Sky and was released under her maiden name of Gleit when she was living in San Francisco, CA. Due to countless requests, this Cd which has been out of print is being made available again.

Throughout her career Stefanie has demonstrated her conviction not just by her words but also in her deeds. Whether it's the time she spent teaching English as a Second Language to both inmates at the San Francisco County Jail (men's facility) and homeless Latino Women or the season she spent living and working on the Hudson River Clearwater Sloop, (a boat dedicated to environmental education), her diverse experiences now reflect profoundly in both her live performance and her songwriting.

What's so disarming about Stefanie is that she isn't preachy or self-righteous, just honest and direct. She says, "I come from the school where the personal is political. It's the daily struggles, the daily questions we ask ourselves that really mean something". Most refreshing about Stefanie is that she doesn't address her experiences as unique or isolated issues due to circumstance she approaches it all as shared human struggle.

Along with being an award winning songwriter, Stefanie is also an accomplished guitar player; transitioning easily from strong percussive strumming to melodic finger picking. Often noted for her interesting rhythmic style, her song structures are unique, sometimes changing time signatures within songs but doing it so naturally you'll hardly realize that it's happened. Stefanie plays and sings not from her heart but, as she puts it, from her gut. She is one of those rare birds that successfully merges instinct with craft. What she's created is skilled and honest work that cuts right to the bone.

Stefanie has been touring nationally for the past two year and has made guest appearances on over 25 radio stations and received airplay on over 40. They include WFUV, WKZE, WUMB, WXPN and Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour (syndicated over 125 stations). She's been featured on Laney Goodman's Woman in Music (syndicated/NPR 70 stations) & Maine Public Radio (syndicated). Two years running Stefanie has been chosen as one of a hundred artists from among 10,000 to represent the best independent music from MP3.com on year end compilation CD's.

No stranger to festivals, she has performed at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2000, NY) and was a finalist in, USA Songwriters Competition-top 20 H.M. (2001), The Lake County Folk Fest, (2000), The Founders Company Folk & Bluegrass Songwriters Competition, (1999, UT) and The Sierra Songwriters Competition (1998, CA). Stefanie has shared the stage with Jules Shears and John Hall (of Orleans) and has opened for Shawn Colvin, Janis Ian, Richard Shindell, Freedy Johnston, John Wesley Harding, Bill Morrisey, Steve Forbert, John Sebastian and the list goes on.

Ultimately though, Stefanie's not about credits and credentials. She says, "It took me a long time to find my center artistically. We're taught to want so much, but all I ever really wanted was to make my living playing music for people and be able to travel from town to town. So, that's what I'm doing". Stefanie currently plays an average of 120 dates a year. If somewhere out there the road of Sheryl Crow were to converge with Tracy Chapman and Ani DiFranco, then perhaps in the midst of that convergence you'd find the songs and sounds that are Stefanie Fix.
