"Not only do I hear many surprising things but the continuity, and overall feeling is wonderful. Also the space that you have created - you have made a âplaceâ for people to visit, and experience - that is among the more difficult things to achieve in music."
Anthony Curtis - Guitarist/Composer (www.anthonycurtis.net)
Ranjit Fernandez is originally from the east-coast town of Montrose in Scotland and has lived in Qatar since 2000 with his wife and 3 children. He is currently working at Doha College as the Head of E-Learning. He has been playing guitar since he was 14 years old. Since moving to Qatar, and with the encouragement of Anthony Curtis (formerly of BOOM, www.anthonycurtis.net), he started composing and recording his music using a Zoom PRS (personal recording studio) unit. Initially the songs were developed under the Unkle Fezterâs Project title and 3 CDs were produced. Over 150 (home-made) CDs have been sold in Qatar and abroad.
The idea behind this music project was to develop and present 3 genres of music simultaneously, each working on different moods and emotions. Songs in the 'Pierced' section are rock/metal orientated whilst 'Lobe' is the acoustic-driven collection presented as the 'soft' easy-listening alternative. 'Prostheses', as the name may suggest, is the experimental ambient/dance section working with loops and samples. Songs inspired by Qatar feature on his first release entitled âPearlsâ.
âPearlsâ is an album of 8 instrumental tracks inspired by the artist's experiences of living in Qatar. Songs are either rock orientated, easy-listening or dance/ambience based. All of the music has been composed and arranged by the artist himself who also plays the guitar and bass parts on the rock and acoustic tracks.
The aim of the album is to offer listeners a memento of Qatar and Arabia that has long-lasting appeal. Being instrumental, there are no language or cultural barriers.
The music has featured on QBS radio and articles have appeared in Qatar Happening magazine, the Gulf Times newspaper and several Scottish newspapers. The CD is now on sale in all Falcon Retail Outlets in Qatar.
Currently, Ranjit is in the process of securing a distribution deal in the USA.
