Details:
Through her music Crystal Stafford enchants her audience with passion and conviction. A singer-songwriter from Jacksonville, FL she spreads a message of individual freedom, hope and the responsibility we all have to each other and to the world.
Largely self-taught, she began composing simple songs, soon after learning to play guitar. During her time as an environmental studies major at the University of Hawaii she was exposed to the issues and ideas that would fuel the evolution of her songwriting. This experience helped to shape her musically, inspiring her to promote social awareness and change through her music.
Crystal is influenced by a diverse range of different styles and artists, from Bob Marley to Portishead. Her guitar playing ranges from, introspective and reflective to upbeat and infectious. But, it is perhaps her voice that defines her music. At times breathy and seductive, at others strong and soulful, her voice becomes an instrument unto itself, building momentum and energy and adding to the climactic nature of her songs.
Crystal Staffordâs stage presence is dynamic and powerful. It is this presence that has made her successful as a solo artist, and has also inspired other colloborations. She has performed front-woman for funk-rock jam band Soulvine, as a one half of the duo Jear Let, a jazz folk fusion project with bassist Doug Riefler, and as a vocalist on a dance-track for Soul Support Recordings with DJs PC Synergy. Her most recent projects include working with soul-funk band Aerial Tribe, and this union provided the inspiration for her latest work, The Crystal Stafford Project.
The Project, adds unique basslines and rock guitar solos to Crystalâs previous acoustic work, and the result is a soulful blend of funk and rock. She is supported by Jon Farmer on drums, Jared May on bass, Jeremy Kairalla on lead guitar, Zac Chester on piano and the rich baritone of Patrick Evan. The group has spent the last few months touring in NE Florida and will spend the summer touring to promote the release of Crystalâs CD.
