The group Coleâlition was founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Cole and founding members Dajari Makena and John Anthony Cole. Colelition blends a wide range of musical styles, from gospel to funk, Brazilian to jazz to deliver their unique sound. Coleâlition as independent artist has released two CDâs and is currently producing a third.
This hometown favorite of Seattle/Tacoma has developed a reputation for being virtuoso in their musicianship and presentation. Colelition has shared the stage with national recording artist Roy Ayers and Najeeâ. Colelition also opened for national gospel recording artist BeBe and CeCe Winnans. The group has shared equal billing with artist such as The Whispers, Tony, Toni, Toneâ, Freddie Jackson and The Ohio Players. For two years, Colelition was the exclusive Jazz artist for the annual âFestival at Seaâ cruise to the Caribbean on Carnival Cruise Lines, where they performed with comedians Mark Curry and Tommy Davidson. The group has played many local venues such as Saltyâs at Alki, Mc Gowanâs, Jazzbones, as well as events like The Bite, The Taste and Fourth of Julivars to name a few. Coleâlition also has been a great addition to corporate events and enjoys a great relationship with Northwest companies and charities.
In 1996, Coleâlition received a âPeoples Choiceâ award from Seattleâs KNHC radio for âBest New Jazz Artistâ. In 1998, Colelition was nominated for a âKUBE 93â radio âNorthwest Artist Awardâ. In 2004 and 2005 the group was a featured artist on 98.9 KWJZ Smooth Jazz âTraditions and Trendsâ program. Colelition is featured on the "Rain City" Jazz Compilation CD benefiting "The Millionaires Club Charity" sponsored by Tullyâs Coffee. The band released their new CD âSeventh Powerâ on the Urban Mosaic Record label in January 2006. The disc is a look into Coleâlitionâs musical expression of lifeâs myriad moods and experiences, through smooth grooves, catchy hooks and tasty improvisational solos.
