My name is Colin Roy Monette. People say Iâm an old soul. Iâm only twenty-two years old. âMaudlinâ is my first album a magnificent record and a fantastic magic practiced ever so peacefully. âMaudlinâ is simply beautiful it is what I want- it is human, itâs what is missing; a triumph and a slap in the face to over production and material accumulation. A story filled with profound personal sentiments. Whisper itâMaudlin. I found the right word. Maudlin (modâlin): easily moved to tears; weakly and sometimes foolishly sentimental. The album is exactly that. A story told by a young man suddenly, horrifyingly given the freedom to have abstract thought. I finished music college. I was given a degree a hand shake and no job, but everything that I needed. Including an ailment procured by playing my guitar for eight hours a day everyday. The album tells the story of a boy learning to be a selfish man. (shellfish) I experienced women. I experienced everything high for a while (grass, marijuana, pot, sensimilla) showers, stretching, tea it was free and I was experimenting, experiencing, learning. I wrote a new tune most everyday. Some old ideas some pure improvisationâ¦I treasured and kept it all--a string squeak to a car alarm to a dog bark. The album became quite the sentimental piece when during, what was the main recording time, I started using household relics as unorthodox instruments (mostly percussion). I used a baseball mit. A Chinese wind chime older than me. A 70âs cruiser bicycle (my uncles childhood bike, please listen for the free wheel, itâs so sweet). Cooking pot, door, floor, cardboard box, leather shoes (hand-me-downs from my older brotherâ¦the shoes worn for about 12 years I stomped down on record), and thereâs more unorthodoxy. Conceptualizing the album was easy. I had been planning these songs somewhat subconsciously since I was little. I had an idea of what music was and could be and that idea was: anything--as long as it had personal meaning and purpose. Not necessarily meaning to ones self but meaning to the listener who could place the music into their own puzzle of life and think whoa! What a nice fit. My music fits. It is relevant. It is as real as the human experience. Music nerds will have a fun time analyzing this. Enjoy. Jump in. Feel free to cry, to smile and to laugh. You need this music. We all need hope in this time. So as you listen to the sounds think about the facts of reality. Obviously buy the record. You will be supporting somebody that will not die, that is real, that needs to reach youâ¦look forward to more music, endless possibilitiesâ¦Iâm a Native American man of the 21st century of the western hemisphere. A human will relate to this music. Look for my band âThe Treesâ AKA âThe Forest for The Treesâ. AKA âColin Monette and The Treesâ. On the album I wrote, recorded, produced, and played all the instruments but one snare and cymbal track from a friend. I have no record label. The music is pure beauty, truthful. Bluesy, Folky, Jazzy, Artsy, Conscious, Relevant. The music is truly ART. Music is Art. Truth. Music is the one language we all can understand. Love Colin
