"Their sound can be likened to US geek-rock icons Weezer, but harder on the ears, but in a good way!â
Emily Berndt, Undertow Street Press
In 2005, the band released their debut EP online, 'Pasta of Muppets', which is available through such online retailers as iTunes and CD Baby. The EP also features the âsynthologyâ of Jade OâRegan of Melbourneâs Jane Vs World. The EP gives audiences a glimpse of whatâs to come from The Combovers and thatâs the onslaught of Nerd-Pop/Rock that is their debut album 'Bin Night Anthems'. The band have also released audio streams of some of the tracks from the album on their Myspace page (address above).
They have played shows with the likes of Melbourneâs Jane Vs World and Man Bites God along with local Gold Coast acts such as White October and The Summer Was Hell. The Combovers also âgot their nerd onâ at the Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus Open Day as they took part in a showcase with other emerging young acts from the Queensland Conservatorium.
âA must have album for every closet nerdâ Alex Transfeld, Oz Music Show Bay FM 100.3
However, the most exciting show to date is when The Combovers took the stage at one of the biggest youth music festivals this country has to offer! BIG DAY OUT 2006 (Gold Coast) was the launch of their debut album, 'Bin Night Anthems' which is now available for $15 at Skinnyâs Music and Rocking Horse Records in Brisbaneâs CBD, along with Music Mania and Sunflower Music on the Gold Coast!
Influences include: Weezer, Wheatus, NOFX, Snow Patrol, They Might Be Giants & The Dissociatives.
