Con Mi Burrito Sabanero
2-part (opt. 3-part) choir and percussion
Traditional Spanish Carol
Arranged by M Ryan Taylor
Con Mi Burrito Sabanero (With my Grasslands Donkey) is a wonderful Spanish Christmas Carol (or Villancico) from the perspective of a little boy riding his little burro to Bethlehem, singing and playing his cantrico all the way. Ive arranged it for 2 or 3-part choir with percussion.
I imagine the arrangement making a fun processional for the opening or close of a concert. Though scored for 2 or 3-part choir it can be used by an SATB mixed choir; simply break up the verses between the sections and have them sing tutti in octaves at the end.
A rough translation and pronunciation guide are included in the score.
Translation:
I am riding to Bethlehem on my grasslands donkey.
If you see me, Im going to Bethlehem.
I sing with my cantrico as my donkey trots.
Hurry up, my little donkey, were almost there.
Hurry up, my little donkey, were going to see Jesus.
Lyrics:
Con mi burrito sabanero
voy camino de Belén
con mi burrito sabanero
voy camino de Belén
Si me ven, si me ven
voy camino de Belén
si me ven, si me ven
voy camino de Belén.
Con mi cuatrico voy cantando
mi burrito va trotando
con mi cuatrico voy cantando
mi burrito va trotando
Tuqui tuqui tuqui tuqui
Tuqui tuqui tuquitá
apurate mi burrito que ya vamos a llegar
Tuqui tuqui tuqui tuqui
tuqui tuqui tuquitú
apurate mi burrito vamos a ver a Jesús
