-bio-

Colleen Brown is an engaging singer, songwriter and pianist whose talent and drive are as deep as her Alberta roots. Having sung, played and written music since a young age, Colleen cut her teeth in Edmonton's esteemed Grant MacEwan music program and has since gone on to perform her striking original music all around Alberta.

Colleen writes catchy, melodic roots/pop music, and while her influences are apparent, she eschews the comparisons and stereotypes that dog most young female singer songwriters. Quoth Colleen, "Mope? Nope!". She has a mature compositional and lyrical sense that belies her age. Her inspiration comes from everywhere: an elderly woman on the bus; the west coast; the challenges of being a musician for a living; and of course, the complexities of love.

Over the past few years, Colleen's been working on making a name for herself, writing and performing songs in her original, honest and quirky style. She maintains, "I want to connect with my audience. I feel I'm writing about experiences everybody can relate to, but framing them in a way that not everybody has considered before." And her growing audiences have come to count on her heart-on-sleeve writing, sense of humor and non-traditional outlook.

The end of 2004 finds Colleen releasing her ambitious debut CD, 'A Peculiar Thing', performing with Edmonton's party mainstays The Kit Kat Club, and joining forces with a cross-section of Edmonton's most talented young musicians, including Jay Cairns, Greg Ferguson, Peter Belec and producer Doug Organ. Colleen Brown is poised to make a splash outside her native prairies.
