FOLK: Traditional Folk, WORLD: Celtic

Details:
The CD, "Miles From Dublin" is Danâs second album since "Waiting For Inspiration", released 2 years ago (also available on CDBaby). This CD is rich with traditional Irish tunes, including a few from New Brunswick, some traditional American, a couple hymns and 3 originals.

This is a self-produced project primarily featuring the work of acoustic guitarist Dan Carollo. The CD has a guitar-driven feel throughout, with Dan shifting between melodic riffs and backup rythm throughout. Joining Dan are several outstanding guest musicians: Eliot Grasso on uilleann pipes and flute, Randal Bays on fiddle, Suzanne Taylor on accordion and Michael Connolly on mandolin.

Danâs primary approach was to create very simple, sparse arrangements â typically just guitar and one or two other instrument.

About Dan Carollo:
Dan is a Seattle-area acoustic finger style guitarist who performs a blend of contemporary and traditional Irish/American tunes (primarily in DADGAD tuning). He was selected as âNorthwest Folk Artist of the Monthâ on Seattleâs KBCS radio in 2004.

Dan's CD "Waiting For Inspiration" was select among 11 other local artists to debut the the City of Seattle's "OnHold" music program -- a partnership with Seattle musicians and composers, the Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and the Department of Information Technology.

Dan performs annually at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle, WA.

About The Guest Artists:

Eliot Grasso:
Baltimore native and Seattle resident, Eliot Grasso, began playing Irish traditional music on the flute at age seven, tin whistle at age eight, and uilleann pipes at age eleven. Since 1996, Eliot has won regional and international first, second, and third place titles at the New York Fleadh Cheoil and Ireland's Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in the uilleann pipes and tin whistle division.

Eliot has appeared on numerous CD projects, including A New Dawn (Na Piobairi Uilleann, 1998) , a compilation recording of 6 pipers aged between 15 and 17 years, and Irish in America (Folk Legacy Records, 2001).

His latest project "Standing Room Only" (also available on CDBaby) is primarily a solo album comprised of 11 tracks of traditional Irish instrumental tunes, including an original set of tunes.

Randal Bays:
The Cork Examiner, Ireland's second largest newspaper, called Randal Bays "a rare beast, a master of both the fiddle and the guitar", and Fiddler Magazine said he is "among the best Irish style fiddlers of his generation."

Don Meade from the "The Irish Voice" (New York, Jan. 2001) says: "Still best known to many for his beautiful guitar accompaniment on fiddler Martin Hayes' early recordings, Randal himself is a marvelous fiddler, one of the best in the country." Randal's grasp of the Irish fiddle style is rare among non-Irish musicians, a result of nearly thirty years of fiddling, listening, and sharing many a late-night session with the finest traditional musicians, while nurturing respect and understanding for its roots in Irish culture.
(several Randal Bays releases also available on CDBaby)

Michael Connolly:
Michael is a multi-instrumentalist who performs mandolin, fiddle, flute, concertina, piano, uilleann pipes and several others. He performs fiddle with Seattle string band Captain Gravel (cd available on CDBaby) and plays Hammond organ for Seattle artist Korby Lenker
