What is this ?
Cary T. Brown?... Is it Pop, is it Folk, is it Alternative, or is it Country? Itâs a little bit of all this. Cary carefully mixes his influences into his music to create a sound and style all his own. Something familiar yet undoubtedly unique. His songs are based on solid melodies and catchy refrains. Nothing to do with in your face powerchords or head spinning high notes, just good songs that make you want to sing along. Cary was born in Lexington, KY and spent his summer vacations in Murfreesboro, TN just down the interstate from Nashville. This was the time in Caryâs life when he saw Dolly Parton, Marty Robbins, The Statler Bros. and the rest of the Grand Olâ Opry gang live at the Grand Olâ Opry. That was it, the stars were in his eyes and he couldnât see anything else. Caryâs mom worked for the US government and moved regularly, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, and back to Pennsylvania. With each new town Cary met a new group of freinds and encountered a new style, a new music. This explains Caryâs vast and various list of influences.
Once out of highschool, Cary and his long time high school buddy Jake Crawford attacked the north eastern club scene with the ever popular alternative pop group The April Skies (www.theaprilskies.com). From New Yorkâs mythic club CBGBâs to the well known 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. and everywhere in between, the group received rave reviews and had a great time with fans.
Love and restlessness took Cary to Strasbourg, France. He spent a few years solo, guitar/voice playing small club gigs and festivals in Germany, Belgium and all the way to Paris. Finally ready to attack the bigger clubs Cary formed the groups âLife After Jakeâ and âCary Brown and the French Dudeâ both groups played extensively and were quite popular with crowds and club owners.
Caryâs passion for music and a burning desire to make a full length album pushed him into his latest project âThe Full Moon Filesâ. A retrospective snapshot of life, death and all that they hold in store. Cary spent 4 years composing and 3 months in the studio (Espace Musique et Création in Hoerdt, France and mixed in England at the Dial House with Doug Cook) recording with some of the finest musicians in eastern France. Guitars, drums, bass, harmonica, piano, Hammond, saxophone, accordian, thereâs even a french horn if you listen closely. But donât listen too closely, this isnât music to be studied, itâs to be enjoyed. So please enjoy.
