Captain Zero was created in Los Angeles in 2000 by four musicians. Doug (drums), Paul (bass), Brian (guitars), and Rico (Vocals, guitar) all had played in various bands of various types over the years. Brian and Doug met in their college jazz band , became friends, and played original music together often. Rico and Paul first jammed together in a popular local band called ,âThe Rustic Soulsâ , and worked together well. Rico and Brian went to high school together and a few years later ran into each other at a Home Depot. They talked a bit about music, got together with Paul, and jammed. Brian brought in Doug, and when all four of us first got together and jammed, everything just clicked (musically and personality wise).
Two things that we all had in common were: 1). We each had our own style of playing and would create unique grooves, sounds, riffs, lyrics, etc. 2).We each preferred to play original music and disliked playing in cover bands. Hence, Captain Zero is all original and sounds like no other. We have played all the major clubs in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. (Check out our pics from our website performing at the House of Blues). We are always well received when we play live.
We hired an independent producer/engineer (Troy) who has an old, 24 track , analog recording board and who has done work for various Los Angeles artists (from latin jazz artists to gansta rap artists).
Describing the music on this cd isnât easy. It is original rock/funk music with a 60s/70s sound. We tried to capture our improvisational style on this cd. Each song has different genres woven into it (from metal to jazz). The lyrics describe an emotions, feelings, or thoughts that almost everybody has experienced at one time or another.
Right now, we have more songs ready to record. These songs are shorter and less instrumental than the songs on our âRevengeâ cd. We hope to have them up on Cdbaby soon.
