Claymore, rolling thunder from down under. Cutting edge Celtic Fusion as good as it gets. From the penetrating beats of the bohdrahan drum in the battle songs of the Jacobite rebellion to the hyonotizing drone of the pipes in the evocataive love ballads
12 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Celtic, ROCK: Progressive Rock
Details:
This band has been kicking around Melbourne, Australia for sometime, releasing solid records on a regular basis. The finest of which is Tribute. There is a timelessness about their particular brand of Celtic rock that makes it as vital today as it was before we had to keep reminding ourselves that its the 21st century. They have an obvious reverence for U2. The band opens up airy atmospheres of sound over which bagpiper Grant Scroggie sprinkles his particular brand of Scottish Magic and I have never heard a piper turn a bagpipe into a saxaphone without missing a beat. Claymore is particularly adept at utilizing dynamics, soft versus hard to drive home a message. The band demonstrates an expansive but serious sound on the Album opener, "North and South" all about the conflict in Ireland which starts off acoustic then roars through its political lyrics and an almost 80's style guitar break that puts one in mind of the Big Country, the 1980 Scottish Rock band. Claymore will surprise you and delight you and is very much in the tradition of Enter the Haggis. "Music Review by Charles Schram
