''This is the record I've been wanting to make for a long time" says Chris Mahoney of his debut solo album-''Rebirth" . "It's been an exciting and renewing experience" His playing up until this time has kept him playing in numerous rock bands , teaching , NAMM show appearances , and landed himself endorsements with major guitar and amp manufacturers . Since first discovering the guitar in a sears catalog it quickly became his soulmate . ''I would stare at pictures of guitars for hours wondering what it would be like to plug it in and play it . When I got my first guitar , it's all I ever wanted to do ." Spending every waking moment studying and playing he quickly became a teacher himself and for years now has had a full plate of loyal students. Major corporations such as Yamaha , Soldano and Mesa Boogie have includued him in their artist roster . He has been asked do to several clinics/seminars on their behalf . Countless lessons( given and recieved) as well as rock gigs , fusion projects and acoustic performances has seasoned his playing and given it a diverse direction . Preferring to study the "conceptual" aspects of music rather then the "learn by ear" method helped develop a unique style . ''To be honest , I just never really had the patiece to sit for hours and learn other players recordings , I just found it a bit more interesting to study theory and harmony and unlock what the guitar offered . I simply found it easier and more rewarding to play what was in my own head than play what was in someone else's". In fact , 95 of the music on "Rebirth" was concieved either hours or minutes before tracking . '' I wanted the music to be spontanious , not rehearsed . It was exciting to me to go into th studio not really knowing what I was going to play".

Mahoney called on his long time friend Chris Cubeta to produce "the sounds I was hearing in my head" . "I've wanted to work with him for a while and the timing was just perfect . He's the most passioniate musician I've ever worked with and we worked amazingly well together" . The album fuses rock , hip-hop , techno and industrial and most instruments were played by him . ''I've always loved the way guitar sounds with electronic instruments so I wanted to start there and "paint" what I needed with "real " instruments when needed . The drummers seat was filled by Jerry Terwilliger and Chris Cubeta . '' I actually tried playing drums myself , but after about five minutes my arms were about to fall off so I handed the job over to Jerry , who was amazing and a sweetheart". Chris Cubeta subbed when Jerry wasn't available . "I was thinking what can't this guy do!!"
Giving no thought at all to comercial success , marketing , airplay , song length , and all of the other pitfalls that can restrict creativity , he chose to simply empty what was in his head onto tape . ''It was very freeing to to let the song speak to me and not be confined at all". This "in the moment" approach is a breath of freah air . You can hear the excitment in the music . The songs are catchy , happy , sad , inventful , curious and mind boggling . If you don't play guitar you'll love the record . If you do , you'll love it even more .
