Details:
Letters from the Vitamin Sea is a hauntingly dark yet sometimes funny concept album written, performed and recorded by 22 year old Texas native Chris McWilliams all with cheap, hand-me down, home-recording equipment. But it's vastly more than just some demo. Sometimes it's pretty heavily orchestrated and layered. All instruments, namely guitars, bass, drums, synths, computer generated sounds, trumpet, vocals, various percussion and foibles etc., are manned by Mr. McWilliams with the exception of one vocal performance by Mrs. Lucy Ferguson. The album was conceived over a five year period, a sort of musical "coming of age" and contains themes as varied as sex, drugs, rock and roll, joy, discontent, narcissism, hating the government, love, death, insanity, loneliness, desperation and......fruit?!! "I tried to make something that no one had ever heard before, even me!," says McWilliams. "I wanted to be incredibly eclectic to reflect my own tastes in music which are neurotically diverse, to say the least." The album sometimes soars, sometimes jangles, sometimes bumps, and sometimes whispers but always intrigues.
