CURANDEROS

"Best Latin Alternative Band 2000" - MundoRockero.com

"Best Latin Alternative Band in LA" - L A Music Awards

After years of struggling in the chaotic Chicano punk movement of the early nineties, in February of 1997 the Lomar brothers finally put together their most creative and ambitious project "Curanderos". Although the band had already been experimenting with traditional Latin-American sounds, Curanderos incorporated all Spanish lyrics and poetry. Lured by the success of such bands as Jaguares and Mana, Curanderos' first album went on to achieve as much local club and radio airplay as that of their signed counterparts in less than a year. Released in the summer of 1998, their self-titled EP sold over 3,000 copies in Los Angeles alone. Independent record store Music Exchange (Glendale, CA) declared the EP one of their most popular independent releases ever.

Motivated by the success of their first release, Curanderos decide to hastily move forward with the release of their second independent production. Before a packed El Rey Theater, Curanderos released the powerful, but melancholy "Antes Que Duerma" (Before I Sleep) in November of 1999. Though not as popular as their first EP, the album finally got Curanderos the critical acclaim they had not received previously. The highest recognition had come from La Banda Elastica (LBE), Latin-America's most important Alternative Latin Rock magazine. Before the release of their second album, Curanderos had only been invited once to participate in LBE sponsored festivals. To date, Curanderos has played a record seven times for the magazine's high-profile Las Noches Del Dragon showcases. The Cu, as they are affectionately called by their fans, was declared "Best Latin Alternative Band of 2000" (Critic's Choice) by MundoRockero.com and as the Best Latin Alternative Band in Los Angeles in 2001 by the LA Music Awards.

Combining cosmic guitar noise, Flamenco strummed power chords, and beautiful melodies, Curanderos creates art reminiscent of early Readiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and Santana. Curanderos features the quirky lead vocals of Mario Lomar and hypnotic "Psyche-Latin" guitar style of Larrhy Ruiz. Complimented by the melodic Rick Lomar (Bass), and the hard-hitting Diego Palacios on drums.

Curanderos has performed at some of California's best venues including: House of Blues, The Roxy, Key Club, El Rey Theater, Dragonfly, Opium Den, Troubadour, Coconut Teazer, Whiskey, Hard Rock Café, Universal City Walk, Universal Amphitheater, Weingart Stadium (ELACC), JC Fandango (Anaheim), and The Ford Amphitheater. Curanderos has participated in Soccer Rock Festival 99' and headlined College Fest 99' in Rosarito, Mexico. Curanderos has shared the stage with international renown Latin Alternative acts such as Mikel Erentxun, Babasonicos, Puya, Duncan Dhu, La Lupita, Victimas Del Dr. Cerebro, and La Oreja de Van Gogh among others. Curanderos has been featured on such magazines as La Banda Elastica, Al Borde!, Boca, Retila and the nation's most important Spanish language newspaper La Opinion.

With the release of their forth production "Evolucion Show" in January of 2004, Curanderos' goal is to showcase and present their music at a global scale.
