I started playing piano before I was five years old, running to the piano to plunk out a melody that I had just heard from one of my mother's piano students. Playing the piano was just natural - simply communicating outwardly what I heard in my head. Mom gave me lessons from the basement as she ironed and I practiced upstairs in the living room, correcting a rhythm or an accidental. As I grew older, Dad and I would improvise duets at the piano, each of us changing keys or time signatures to fool the other. My brother and sister played the piano as well. A favorite way to get even with my older brother was to go to the piano and play with ease what he had just finished practicing. I tolerated the "clicking" from my older sister's long fingernails just so we could play duets together.

My high school band and choral teachers provided an incredibly solid foundation that taught me much about excellence in music. I've been able to develop my style through more than 30 years of playing in church, weddings, and community theater.

I'm thrilled to get some songs down that have been in my heart and head for years.
