Champagne Francis comes from NYC. With Champagne Francis on Vocals and Guitar and Connie on Bass, we have been writing songs, recording and performing around the northeast as a trio with a few different drummers.
Our sound has a blend of acoustic and electric guitars which has been described as alternative and indie . Some of our influences are Sparklehorse, Pavement, Guided by Voices, Yo La Tengo and Elliot Smith.

"Champagne Francis is the best power pop band in
New York, bar none. I told this to frontman Brian
Silverman. Power pop? He made a face. Notâ¦indie rockâ¦?
Nope, I said. Your technique is too good, your theory
is too good. Which means that instead of being just
sort of melodic, sort of catchy, the songs on this
bandâs second cd are ridiculously catchy, ridiculously
good. I Start to Daydream is a whole album full of
hook-laden tunes that will play in your head all day
long, that will catch up with you when you least
expect them. It might be the single best album
released by a NYC band in 2006.

There is every reason to like this album. The songs
are memorable to the power of an exponent. Silvermanâs
layers of minimalist electric and acoustic guitar are
tasteful to a fault: the guy is a master of subtlety
and texture. The one instance of over-the-top guitar
shredding is laugh-out-loud funny and deliberately so.
The vocals are laid-back and unaffected. You can
understand the lyrics â which, by the way, have a
terrifically understated wit. The songs themselves are
terse and crystallized, polished to a gorgeous
shimmer. Thereâs 11 of them on this cd and all are
first-rate. There arenât many bands who can say that
about what theyâve released this year.

Whatâs best about this album is the devious
sensibility underlying all the songs. Silvermanâs
lyrical imagery is what you see in the background of a
Twilight Zone episode if you look closely. The top of
the sink comes off, the guy on waterskis canât get out
of the water, the cops sneak up on the gaggle of
friends passed out on the lawn, and, in the albumâs
fittingly final and best song, the Williamsburg
trendoid and his girl get bored with Bedford Ave. and
move out to the country. Fans of whip-smart rock from
Crowded House, to the Auteurs, to, hell, the Beatles
will not be disappointed.

This album continues the jangly excellence achieved by
the late, lamented Scout (which Silverman played in
alongside ubiquitous drummer Nigel Rawles), and ought
to score big with the Guided by Voices crowd, who will
go for the delicious guitar sonics and smart
songwriting. And it blows away the Shins (not that
theyâre a bad band, either). All Champagne Francis
needs is a song in a hit indie film and theyâll be
playing stadiums. Five stars, very highly recommended.
Get this version of the cd as a collectorâs item
before the major label vultures swoop in for a piece
of the action."
