Details:
Born an only child to a working class family, John had a nomadic childhood, taking up residence in several small Connecticut towns, including Watertown and Litchfield. He began his musical odyssey at age six, beginning with classical piano in private study. After six years, he grew tired of piano and toted his keyboard to a local music shop, where he traded in his keys for an acoustic guitar. Reaching for his folk roots, he bought a nylon-stringed acoustic and began to teach himself classical guitar. Shortly thereafter he discovered his father's vinyl collection and began feeding himself on the bread of rock legends such as Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, and James Taylor. Inspired, he found himself yearning for the soul of steel strings.

By seventeen John was writing his own music, pouring his heart out onto his guitar. Filling the gap between soulful jam band licks and pop song emotional tenderness, John Charles developed a unique sound that cannot be categorized. Recording these songs in a makeshift home studio on a four-track, he sought only personal piece of mind. It was not until John arrived onto the Boston cityscape that he realized others also connected with the youthful passion of his songs. One summer afternoon, a stranger knocked on the door of John's apartment. Fearing he was playing his guitar too loudly, John quickly apologized. Confused, the man was not seeking an apology, but instead merely wanted to know the name of the artist playing on John's stereo. The stranger was surprised to hear that he was actually listening to the live music of John Charles. Armed with these words encouragement, John headed for the studio.

With a little help from his friends, John found a studio in downtown Boston, where he began to lay down a few tracks. In the first session John exploded, recording five full songs in only a few short hours. His success in the studio drove him to assemble a group of musicians dedicated to creating a refreshing new sound. With a full band behind him, John seeks to prove himself to music lovers everywhere by bringing raw passion and energy to the stage each and every night.
