Details:
Johnny Eden has come from hating all music at the age of twelve to being hailed as a "serious songwriter capable of writing in a variety of styles and tempos with a blend of jazzy funk, rock, country and blues-folk" (Bill Polonsky, What's Up, YUKON!). Recklessly abandoning a permanent address, relentlessly touring across Canada on the Greyhound, Johnny has been called the "last troubadour" (Poor Pelly, Pelly-Pell-Ooza A.D.), and garnered a reputation for being "a bold lyricist and musical adventurer" (Noah Zacharin, CKLN). When Johnny hits the stage, anything can happen. In the words of Ottawa saxophonist, Linsey Wellman, "Johnny is the only songwriter I know who can improvise a great song." Pouring all his energy into performances, Johnny is hailed as "an enthusiastic, eclectic, and engaging performer, whose stage presence belies his age" (Peterborough Examiner). He has "stepped up to the mike and launched into some extreme riffing that kept his and the crowd's mutual mojo working till late into the evening" (Bill Polonsky), while also providing "beautiful, touching & inspiring" sets (Renee Lung, Kingston fan) that leave fans waiting to hear him again. His dynamic, "great singing" (Marilyn L., Fredericton fan) has impressed many fans, as he has moved from the deepest of growls to falsetto soars, and made use of left-over accents from his professional acting days. Eden "is a bold lyricist and gets straight to the heart of the matter" (Kyra Walker Pearson). He is eclectic and explorative, ranging from songs about broken hearts and nightmare road trips to hammerhead sharks and poutine. One fan, listening to Johnny's CD as he drove his truck one morning, exclaimed, "Johnny, Tim's and a Boston cream donut, what a life" (Kier Kenny, Charlottetown fan). Audiences are warned: "Look forward to exciting discoveries over the next few decades" (Noah Zacharin).
