It's easy to forget singer/songwriter Josh Thompson is only seventeen. He has a calm, affable confidence rarely seen in people his age. He looks you in the eye. He smiles easily. He also has an uncommon ability to pull together deeply felt, penetrating lyrics with soaring melodic hooks. And his voice, is a unique blend of Jason Mraz with a touch of John Mayer's high tenor. Add in an Owen Wilson bushy blonde mane, and a pair of baby blues sure to set teenage adrenals to pounding, and, well you get the idea. This kid is really going places.
Josh Thompson began singing at the ripe old age of five. His mother relates Josh was always singing around the house and half suspected it would become more than just a hobby for him. A senior at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina, in October of 2005, Josh made some demo tapes for a local music consultant and promoter who gave them to Hollywood radio heavyweight Howard Rosen. Knowing a hit when he heard it, Rosen in turn sent the tapes to Grammy-nominated Producer, David Grow.
"I was knocked out by Josh," said Grow. "The music was very accessible but at the same time had a sophistication which was beyond his years. I knew he really had something and wanted to work with him."
Eight months later, Josh has secured major Los Angeles-based management, has completed a national commercial radio campaign and is set to release his debut album June 1, 2006. The record, produced by Grow, is a mix of twelve soulful singer/songwriter pop songs with touches of alt-rock and Seal-esque grooves.
"I write songs that speak to me first and foremost," says Josh. "The fact that other people relate to and enjoy my music is amazing. I can't wait to see where this journey leads."
