Details:
Metro Detroit's quintet Johnny No Stars is a band that is certainly not easily classifiable. Outright, I suppose, they play a blend of psychedelic and melodic metal, but there's much more to it than that. An absolute Jeckel and Hyde, this band head butts you in the face one minute and lulls you into a trance the next. Jerky metal influenced rhythms interspersed with flowing melodic breakdowns leaves much for the listener to digest.

Each song on their debut album, Willful Suspension of Disbelief (due out in October 2005) is an organic unraveling of influences and textures. Ranging from psychedelic and ethereal to anguished and pounding, JNS manages to mix their eclectic tastes into one catchy conglomeration of sound. "Since our conception, everyone has struggled to label our sound," explains frontman Lars. "This album has been a great experience for us because it has forced us to focus all of our creative influences into one cohesive product."

One listen to their debut album will reveal a myriad of influences. Truly progressive in nature, Think Tool meets Radiohead or Refused meets Pink Floyd with a sprinkling of good old American stoner rock. Interested yet? You should be! "We've never been interested in labels", suggests bassist Bender. "We know what we like and what pleases us and hopefully, others as well." And please others they shall, either on their self-produced album or their tumultuous, high-energy live show. Johnny No Stars is certainly a band to check out sooner rather than later!
