Details:
JAN ABRAMS

Jan has entertained both the West and East coasts with her high-spirited performances of Broadway show tunes and popular standards. This native New Yorker has appeared in cabarets and clubs, lent her voice to weddings and political events and thrilled listeners at senior centers and on cruise ships. âRainbow Wingsâ is Janâs debut recording.

âCabaret & Meâ by Jan Abrams

I grew up in New York City and come from a musical family. My father and his two brothers were piano tuners. And my uncle, Vic Abrams, was a songwriter. He never made it big, but he was fortunate enough to have some of his songs recorded by Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Eddie Fisher.

Whenever my father and uncles got together, you could hear beautiful music and beautiful three-part harmonies. I would listen in awe. They would sing the wonderful standards like â Donât Blame Me, I Should Care and When I Fall In Love, just to name a few.

When I found out I could sing, and, more importantly â when the Abrams Brothers realized this â I was in! I knew then that this was something I had to do. I had to be a singer and cabaret was the venue for me.

I made my cabaret debut at a small club in Greenwich Village called Scene One. From there, I performed at other New York cabarets â Donât Tell Mama, Eighty-Eights, Carolineâs, The Grand Finale and Freddyâs Supper Club.

I love the intimacy of cabaret, the storytelling through an hour of song. In a way, it sort of reminds me of letting people into your living room. The cabaret performer is, after all, revealing a part of their life. Itâs often a vulnerable place to be, but itâs honest and real, and, for me, beyond beautiful voices and beautiful songs â therein lays the appeal.

âAbrams has a wonderfully sneaky way of working in some unexpected emotional moment, such as a grippingly passionate reading of Bacharach and Davidâs âAlways Something There To Remind Me.â Sheâs a solid performer and worth getting to know.â
